Magic pt. 6
I woke up in the middle of the night and heard giggling from downstairs. I wrapped my morning gown around me and tiptoed downstairs. Ginny and Vicky were sitting on the kitchen counter eating the chocolate pudding with large spoons.
“Hey, a midnight snack?” I whispered and they giggled.
“Yeah.” Vicky smirked and handed me a spoon. Suddenly we heard the crash and a weird looking little gnome Flooed in looking shaky and scared.
“Dippy, what is it?” Vicky asked for the creature.
“Sorry to interrupt your Yule feast Miss Ripley, but they need the Aurors immediately, Mr. Potter, Malfoy and Zabini.” He explained quickly and stared at his feet.
“Dippy, this is Ann, Mr. Malfoys girlfriend, she will give you some snack, while I woke up Mr. Malfoy and the others.” Vicky said and disappeared upstairs.
“Dippy...would you like some pudding?” I asked for the creature, who beamed.
“Dippy would like it very much Miss Ann.” The elf said and grabbed the spoon. Ginny smiled and rushed upstairs. A minute later Draco and others came downstairs fully dressed.
“Ok, Dippy let's go. Ginny, will you stay with Ann?” Harry asked and she nodded.
“I'll be back as soon as possible, love. I love you.” Draco murmured into my ear and kissed me gently. Then they all disappeared into the green flames.
I couldn't help my self from worrying and Ginny was doing her best to calm me down. We started to watch a movie and I was able to concentrate on that one for a couple of hours. We both tried to relax, but hours seemed to drag and I couldn't close my eyes. I had a bad feeling that something had happened, something bad. I fell asleep around five o'clock and woke up for a crash. Vicky came in from the Floo. She looked pale and scared.
“You need to come with me...Both of you.” She whispered and took my hand. I looked at Ginny who gulped.
“Where are we going?” She asked and Vicky gulped.
“Damn it Vic, tell us! What happened?!” I shrieked and she looked down and started to cry.
“They... It was... Dark magic... The Aurors tried to stop them, but they got hit... Draco...Harry is... Blaise tried to... It's horrible!” She cried and Ginny screamed. I just stood there and shivered, I felt the pain in my chest when I tried to breathe. We Flooed to the St.Mungo's hospital and found pale looking Harry from the waiting room with a nasty bruise on his forehead.
“Harry, Harry, what happened?!” Ginny shrieked and rushed to hug his husband.
“Some Dark wizards decided to act nasty. Draco got hit while saving me and Blaise. He is unconscious and has several broken bones. Healers are with him right now. Blaise has a broken arm and a concussion, but otherwise he's ok.” He explained and I felt my knees giving up.
“Ann... It's ok, he'll be alright.” Vicky whispered and I began to sob.
“Hermione is there... She is the most talented healer ever. She might have personal problems with Draco, but she will do everything she can to save him.” Ginny whispered and petted my back.
“I want to see him.” I whispered and Ginny nodded. The leaded me to the fourth floor. I took a deep breath when I walked into the room. He was lying under the white sheets and looked pale and hurt. I gulped and took his arm carefully.
“What is that muggle doing here?” A sharp voice asked and Ginny turned around.
“Herm...She's his girlfriend.” She explained and I felt the tension in the room.
“I see. Well, he is unconscious and has a broken leg and a broken wrist. We gave him some Skele-Gro potion and removed the curse, but we didn't want to make his condition worse, so he should be unconscious a while to prevent any brain damage.” She explained and came to check Draco's pulse.
“Will he woke up?” I asked in a low voice.
“He will... But I'm not sure in what condition.” Hermione admitted.
“Thank you. I know you hate me and dislike him, but please... Please save him.” I begged and tears began to run from my eyes.
“You love him...” Hermione whispered.
“I do...” I gasped.
“And I could see that he feels the same about you. You know, you're the one for him... I'm sorry to treat you like a crap.” She said quietly and then started to walk away.
“Hermione... I... thank you...” I gasped and she nodded.
“Just doing my job.” She said and disappeared through the door. Ginny stood in silence while I stared at my unconscious boyfriend and sobbed.
“You know, that was very big thing from Hermione to apologize.” She said finally.
“I know... And I'm grateful for her to being around. I really hope that Draco will survive... I mean the brain damage...” I whispered and she hugged me gently. I heard the door open and Blaise came in with a plaster on his arm and Harry followed him. Vicky came in minutes later with a steaming mug in her hands.
“Here. Drink this.” She said and squeezed me gently.
“Thanks...” I said and took a sip from the mug. It was some sort of herb drink, obviously for calming me down. I looked at Vicky gratefully.
“How is he?” Blaise asked quietly.
“Unconscious. They cannot wake him up yet... brain damage.” I whispered and Ginny started to sob.
“What happened back there?” Ginny asked quietly.
“We went to check the old church in Chelsea and there was some young wizards gathering. They were using dark magic and had released some dark creatures which killed two muggles and two witches during the night. They had also some strong black magic and we got ambushed. Draco got a hit from an unknown spell while he saved me and Blaise.” Harry explained and buried his face into his hands.”We were stupid and we weren't ready... Draco had stupefied three of them, but they managed to make some sort of burst and he took it all...”
“Harry... It's not your fault... Draco saved you and Blaise and that's what friends do... I don't blame you and you shouldn't blame yourself.” I said quietly and touched his head gently. Ginny looked at me and nodded.
“Will you stay here or want us to escort you back to the manor?” Vicky asked quietly.
“I will stay here. If you could bring me something else to wear...” I asked and she looked at my wrinkled gown.
“Oh, sorry, of course. I'll be right back.” She smiled a bit and disappeared.
“Ask Hermione to send a message, if you need anything ok? We will come back later. Are you sure, you're ok?” Ginny worried and I nodded.
“I'll be fine...”
“Ann... I'm sorry.” Blaise muttered and hugged me.
“It's ok. He will be alright...” I whispered and started to cry again. They all looked at me sadly and I gestured them to go. Vicky came back with my jeans and shirt and some other stuff I might need during my stay at the hospital. I hugged her and then closed the door. I slumped to the large armchair and stared at the Draco's pale and broken figure. I just wished that he would woke up and everything would be ok.
I woke up to a small nudge on my shoulder.
“Hi... You've been sleeping six hours... You should get something to eat.” Hermione said and measured me with her brown eyes.
“Oh.. Yeah... Where's...” I stammered a bit confused.
“The cafeteria is on the fifth floor.” She said and smiled lightly.
“Thanks. Is he any better?” I asked quietly.
“His bones had begun to heel and I believe his brain pressure is normal at the moment.... Sorry, but I cannot give you any further information. We don't actually know what kind of curse hit him...” She apologized and I nodded.
“Thanks anyway...” I whispered and headed out from the room. My mind was blank when I found the elevator and told it to take me to the fifth floor. I grabbed a large mug of coffee, a huge tuna sandwich and sat down next to a window. I saw some colorful butterflies playing across the window and the glass switched its color every half an hour., it was charmed of course, but I noticed that the window had changed its color three times and I realized that should get back to Draco's room. I grabbed the tray and put it into the carriage and headed back to the elevator. It was quite quiet and all the other customers seemed to be witches and wizards. They didn't notice me when I dragged myself back to the fourth floor. I stopped at the door when I saw my boyfriend floating up in the air with blue lights circling around him. There were three other healers with Hermione who mumbled something with wands in their hands. I stood at the doorway stunned and stared at the sight. Slowly they let his body float back down on the bed and the lights disappeared.
“Oh... Ann... We discovered the curse and tried to fix everything we could.” Hermione explained when she saw me standing at the doorway.
“And?” I asked quietly.
“He will wake up in three days.” She answered.
“Will he be... I mean... The brain?” I stammered weakly.
“Yes, he will probably be ok, but will suffer some headache a while.” She smiled lightly and squeezed my shoulder gently.
“Thank you. All of you.” I smiled weakly and walked towards Draco's bed. I took his hand again and whispered into his ear. I heard the door closing behind me. “Draco, please wake up... I miss you, I need you. I feel so lonely without you. Please, don't die, I love you...” I brushed my fingers through his hair and petted his cheek gently. I leaned forward with tear drops running from my eyes, I kissed him. He didn't move, but I knew that he could hear me. I kissed his forehead gently and went back to my armchair and tried to focus on the History of wizards, that I'd started to read at the manor. I managed to focus on the book for three hours and read nearly 200 pages when my eyes started to feel heavy again. I glanced at the clock on the wall, it was nearly eight. I fell asleep again. It wasn't the most pleasant dream I had and I woke up to my scream several hours later. I heard someone beside me.
“Lumos.” A female voice whispered and I saw a small light in the dark, Hermione's face next to me. “Are you ok? I heard you scream...I was on patrol, night shift you know...”
“I...I'm ok, just a nighmare. Sorry to bother you...” I whispered.
“Would you like some herbs to make you sleep better?” She asked gently.
“I guess that would be nice, if it's not too much trouble...” I hesitated.
“Not at all, I'll be right back.” She smiled a bit and rushed out from the room. I sighed and closed my eyes leaning my head against the armchair. She was back in a minute with a warm mug in her hands.
“Thanks.” I whispered her.
“Drink it. Here's a blanket for you.” She offered and I smiled at her.
“Thank you for being so nice to me.” I said quietly.
“I have to. This is my job and I can't let personal feelings disturb my working. Besides I'm not mad at you or Draco. I just hate how he treats me, but I guess I deserve it.” She sighed.
“Yeah, he is pretty pissed at you. Sorry... I kind of found it hard to like you at first, but we are much alike. I can see why he started to date you in a first place. You're happy with Ron?” I asked suddenly. She looked at me for a while and answered then with a light smile on her face.
“I am. We're getting married next summer. And I'm pregnant.”
“Oh! That's wonderful! Congrats!” I smiled and she blushed.
“Tell me, how did you met Draco? I mean, you're not from here...” She asked hesitantly.
“Well... Let's say that faith and miserable life brought us together. He just offered me something else and I kind of decided to act impulsive... Like I always do.” I laughed a bit.
“Sounds like Draco.” She grinned.
“Yeah. I really do love him. He is an ass sometimes, but underneath he is the most sensitive and caring man I've ever met. And funny too!” I smiled and looked at the bed were he was lying unconscious. I felt the pain in my chest again and gasped. The sadness melted into my mind and I felt the same empty feeling again.
“Are you ok?” Hermione worried.
“Yes. It just hurts to see him like that...So fragile.” I whispered and she nodded.
“Now you should get some sleep. I will wake you up if something happens. Nox.” She assured and let her wand diminish.
“Thank you Hermione.” I whispered and felt her arm on my shoulder. I fell asleep again.
A dim light shined to my eye when I woke up again. It was morning, or afternoon, I wasn't sure. I rose up and tossed the blanket aside. I stretched my stiffened legs a bit and stepped to see Draco, who was still pale and lying still. I kissed his lips and murmured into his ear. “Morning love.”
Then I took my bag and went to get some coffee and breakfast. My stomach literally screamed for food. I glanced at the clock on the wall it was four in the afternoon. I had slept over eighteen hours, probably because of the drink Hermione gave me. The witch at the cafeteria smiled at me and gave a fresh blackberry cupcake, to bring luck. I thanked and took my tray to the same table I'd sat before. I ate my rolls and pancakes in silence and took huge sips from my latte. I took a huge bite from the cupcake, when something sparkling rolled out from it, it was a word, written with small sparkling letters into air; “Faith” it said. I looked at it and then glanced towards the counter where the witch smiled at me like she knew what was going on. I smiled at her weakly and turned my eyes back to the cupcake, the word was gone. It was like a fortune cookie with magic, I really needed faith and some damn good luck.
After finishing my magical breakfast I headed back to the Draco's room, there was full chaos. I saw Draco's body spasming in the air and healers around him trying to made him stop. Hermione shrieked instructions and I felt Blaise's arms around my shoulders.
“Ann, you don't need to see this. Come.” He said calmly and leaded me back to the cafeteria upstairs.
“Are you ok?” Vicky worried and gave me a hug.
“I... He... Oh god...” I sobbed and buried my face against Blaise's chest.
“It's gonna be ok.” He said quietly and petted my back. “Vic, get some tea for Ann.”
“Ok. The relaxing one?” She ensured and I felt Blaise nod. They guided me to sit and Vicky made me drink some herb tea again. I cried silently and stared blankly out from the blue window.
“He is going to die, isn't he?” I asked quietly.
“We cannot be sure about anything... We haven't been able to find the missing book the dark ones used...” Blaise admitted.
“Have you tried the Malfoy's library at the manor, there might be hints...?” I asked blankly.
“The... Bloody hell! Why didn't I think of that one! Ann, you're genius!” Blaise cheered suddenly and stood up.”I need to go! Vic, love, will you stay with Ann? I'll ask Ginny to get here too. I need Potter!”
“Go! I'll watch her.” Vicky hurried and kissed him quickly. Blaise hurried to the elevator and disappeared downstairs. Ginny appeared minutes later and rushed straight to us.
“I heard! What happened?! Is Hermione there? Where's Blaise?!” She babbled and looked frightened.
“Blaise went to get Harry. They will go to the manor to find out about the curse that had been used on Draco.” Vicky explained.
“Okay. Is Ann ok?” She asked and hugged me gently.
“I am... Just scared.” I whispered and looked at her. Her eyes were suddenly full of tears and I wrapped my arms around her neck and together we cried. Vicky hugged us and sobbed silently.
“Krhm... Miss Granger send me to tell you, that Mr. Malfoy is stable now.” A chubby blond witch explained and waited us to calm down.
“Thank you.” Vicky whispered and I lifted my head.
“He is... sleeping again?” I gasped.
“Yes. You may go and see him now.” The witch continued and headed towards the elevator. We stood up and followed her. As we got to the room everything was silent again. Hermione stood beside Draco's bed and waited for us to step in.
“I'm so sorry Ann... He is stable again. We really need to find the curse, otherwise I think there ain't much hope for him... I'm sorry...” She said and laid her eyes down.
“Blaise and Harry went to look for some info, I'm sure there will be...” I started but stopped when I saw Hermione's hopeless eyes.”Oh... I...” And then tears run out from my eyes again. My knees gave up and I slumped to the floor.
“Ann...” Vicky whispered and wrapped her arms around me.
“Hermione, there has to be something we can do!” Ginny said helpless.
“I will go through all the books, but without that missing spell book of Merwyn The Malicious we are practically blind here.” She admitted and squeezed Ginny's shoulder while leaving us alone.
“I hope Harry and Blaise will find something...” Vicky whispered and lifted me up from the floor.
“Hope is all we got.” Ginny sighed and helped Vicky to put me into the armchair again.
“Ann. Ann!” Vicky whispered and tried to make me react.
“Let her be. We need to help Harry and Blaise.” Ginny said calmly and they left me under the blanket.
I felt totally numb and just sat there staring at Draco's stony body on the bed. I couldn't believe that he might be dead. I kept wishing that he would open his eyes and look at me. Hours dragged, but nothing happened. The room was quiet and Draco didn't move.

A/N I do not own any HP characters. I only invented the plot, Ann, Vicky and Dippy the elf, though the house elves do exist in J.K. Rowling's imaginary world.
